Day 01: Lima: Arrival
After arriving at the International Airport you will be picked up and taken to your hotel
Day 02: Lima City Tour
In the morning, You will enjoy a city tour through Lima and you will get to know the most important attractions of the "City of Kings" like the historic center, the Plaza San Martín, the City Hall, the Government Palace, the Cathedral and the beautiful balconies of the houses of the colonial era. Afterwards, You return to the hotel and the afternoon is at your free disposal.
Day 03: LIMA / PARACAS: Excursion to the Ballestas Islands / NAZCA
Early in the morning, You'll leave Lima and drive south to Paracas. The trip on the Panamericana road takes about 4 hours. We will take a boat trip to the Ballestas Islands, which belong to the Natural Reserve of Paracas. There you'll have to opportunity to observe Sea lions, Penguins, Pelicans etc. On the way back, You'll stop at the famous "Candelabro", a gigantic figure in the style of the Nazca lines. Afterwards we drive to Nazca.
Optional: Flight over Nazca Lines.
With a small plane, You'll fly for 45 minutes over the mysterious Nazca Lines, huge geoglyphs in the Nazca desert that represent animals, birds and geometrical figures that can only be seen from the air.
Day 04: NAZCA / AREQUIPA
Today the journey takes you through Deserts and Valleys along the coast to the white city of Arequipa where you arrive in the evening.
Day 05: AREQUIPA: CITY TOUR
On your tour through Arequipa in the morning, You will visit the main square, one of the most Beautiful “Plazas” in Peru and the Cathedral which is an example of Peruvian architecture of the 19th Century. It houses magnificent treasures of gold and silver. Afterwards, You will walk through ''La Compañia'', a Jesuit church and one of the most beautiful churches in Arequipa with its wonderful façade and columns with spiral carvings, Crowns of laurel, flowers, birds, etc. On closer examination, you will realize the indigenous influence. The angels have indigenous faces and one of them is wearing a crown of feathers. Afterwards,you'll visit Santa Catalana, a small town from the 17th century. The town was opened to visitors in 1970. The Monastery of Santa Catalina gives the visitor an insight into its 400 year old history. You will marvel at the numerous courtyards and gardens, the kitchen, the slave room and the washing areas made of stone. The requirements for entry into this monastery were the strictest of Peru. Today about 20 nuns live in the part of the monastery, which formerly housed up to 500 nuns. After, You'll return to your hotel and you have the afternoon at your free disposal.
Day 06: AREQUIPA / PUNO
Today, you'll drive about 6 hours from Arequipa to Puna. The journey takes you through the “Aguada Blanca” National Park, Where you might be lucky and see a timid Vikunja in the wild. In the early afternoon, You´ll arrive in Puna at Lake Titicaca. The rest of the day is at free disposal.
Day 07: PUNO: Excursion on Lake Titicaca
In the morning, you will start our boat tour on Lake Titicaca and visit the swimming island of the Uros. The Uros are an old nation on Lake Titicaca that is also called "Acuatica". The Uros constructed the island by putting layers of cattails from the lake around the edges. The same material is used for the construction of houses and boats.
Our next stop is the island Taquile and you will get to know its inhabitants, the Quechua. The Quechua have developed an efficient social system over the generations and are well-known for their knitting art. Lunch is taken on the island and in the afternoon we return to Puno where you will receive a transfer to the hotel. (B, L, D)
Day 08: PUNO / CUSCO
Early in the morning, You'll start a 9 hour journey to Cusco with a private transfer. En route to Cusco, You´ll pass the Vilcanota mountain range from where you will be able to see the beautiful view over the snow-covered peaks of "La Raya· and "Kunurana" can be enjoyed. You'll also visit Pucará, Rajchi and Andahuaylilla before we arrive in Cusco where you get a transfer to a selected hotel.
Day 09: CUSCO
On the city tour in Cusco, You will visit the main place, the cathedral and the temple of the sun or the Koricancha. You continue your trip to the Inca ruins Kenko, Rambomachay, Puca Pucara and the fort of Sacsayhuamán. The fortress is famous for its huge stones, which were interconnected with an astounding precision to form the outer walls of the complex. The afternoon is at your free disposal. (B)
Day 10: CUSCO: Sacred valley of the Inca
First, You will take a walk to the ruins of Pisak and from there we will enjoy the marvelous sight over the surrounding area. In Pisak, You will visit the typical Indio market which is open every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Indulge in the traditions of the locals on a typical market day. (On Sundays, Mass is held in Quechua, the language of the indigenous people). In the afternoon, you will enjoy the drive through the Urubamba valley to Ollantaytambo. The fort of Ollantaytambo was built to guard the entrance to the valley and to protect the City from Invasions. The site consists of numerous stacked terraces. You will also have the opportunity to walk around the village and get an impression of the military, Religious and Cultural centre of the Incas. You will later Return to Cusco
Day 11: CUZCO – CACHORA – CHIQUISQA
Early in the morning, You start your journey to Cachora, stopping briefly to look at the archaelogical remains of Tarawasi. Later you'll cross the Cunyac bridge that connects Cusco and Apurimac. You´ll then pass the Curawasi and Saywite districts to reach Cachora at around 10:00 am. Here is the starting point of your Choquequirao hike that takes you up to the Capuliyoc pass (2800m). After lunch, You'll hike to the small village Chisquisqa (1930 m). While walking almost always downhill, You can enjoy the stunning scenery and the Mild climate. Here, You and the others will set up your first camp.
Day 12: CHIQUISQA – MARAMPATA – CHOQUEQUIRAO
Very early in the morning, You´ll start your trek towards Rosalina (1550m) in order to start with the climb of Santa Rosa (2100 m) as early as possible. This is the hardest part of the Choquequira Trek. Later you continue uphill until you reach Marampata (2850 m) where you can rest for a while and enjoy the magnificent view. Over Sunchupata, you continue towards Choquequirao. You will stay over night close to the archaeological complex.
Day 13: CHOQUEQUIRAO – CHIQUISQA
Very early you'll head to Choquequirao in Peru to experience a magnificent sunrise. Afterwards you will receive a three hour tour through the complex while getting information about this important refuge of the Incas. Later you will start your journey way back walking first to Santa Rosa and then, after lunch, downhill to Rosalina. From there you will begin our climb to our camp in Chiquisqa..
Day 14: CHIQUISQA – CAPULIYOC – CUSCO
Afterwards, you will walk back to Cachora. After a two-hour climb, You will reach the Capuliyoc Pass and from there it is another two hours to Cachora. On the way, You'll enjoy the exotic fauna and flora, the snow covered mountains and the Apurimac Canyon. From Cachora, you'll travel back to Cusco where your adventure unfortunately ends. Arrival in the evening and transfer to the hotel.
Day 15: CUSCO: Trip to Machu Picchu
Early in the morning, You will take the transfer to the station of Poroy from where you start your train trip to Machu Picchu. From the train station in Aguas Calientes, you will go by bus up to the beautiful citadel. The ride takes approximately 30 minutes. During the guided tour,you will also visit the main plaza, The round tower, the Holy Sun Dial, the royal rooms, The Temples of the three windows and the cemetery. There will be time left for a private stroll. In the afternoon, you will take the train back to Pory where we get a transfer to the hotel.
Day 16: Cusco/Lima/
Transfer to the Airport and flight to Lima. International connecting flight
