Program in Detail
Day 01: Lima: International Arrival
Arrival in Lima. At your arrival at the International Airport, one of our employees will be expecting you to take you to your hotel.
Day 02: Lima: City Tour
City tour and Archaeological museum. Today, you'll take a City tour of Lima and we will learn about the most important sights in Lima, the "City of the Kings": the historical centre, Plaza San Martín, the main place, the city hall, the regional council, the cathedral and the beautiful balconies from the colonial era. Afterwards you are going to visit the museum of Anthropology and Archeological, with the biggest collection of prehistoric art. This is a good way to get an overview of the peruvian history. Return to the hotel. Afternoon at your own disposal.
Day 03: Lima / Carhuaz / Macara
In the afternoon, You will take your journey to Marcara. We drive in the north, first through Lima´s suburbias and then to the North Pan-American. Then your journey takes us through the Andes up to Macara.
Macara is located at 2800 meters and has a very pleasant atmosphere. What is mysterious for this height, is that there is a huge amount of international rose exportation from this region. Overnight stay at hotel Casarotto Don Bosco. Dinner at the hotel.
Day 04: Macará: Trip to Chavin de Huantar (Acclimatization Day)
Today you will take a trip to Chavin de Huantar. The city Chavin, named after the culture Chavin was built between 850 and 250 BC and is said to be the oldest stone building in Peru. The site consists of ceremonial centres and pyramidal structures. The walls were decorated with stone-like heads. A 4.5 m high monolith called "El Lanzón" is displayed in the centre of the building. The Monolith is a Human-designed image of God. In the afternoon you will return to the hotel.
Day 05: Macará: Parón Laguna (Acclimatization Day)
Today, the plan is to do an excursion to the Paron Lagoon. This lagoon is the most important fresh water reserve of the region and is located at the bottom of the Paria Mountain in the Hualyas valley. In the afternoon, you'll return to Huaraz. You will have free time for the rest of the day.
Day 06: Macará – Cashapampa (2900 m) – Llamaccorral (3760 m)
In the morning, transfer to Cashapampa, the starting point of your trekking tour. The journey leads us up to the Santa Cruz valley. In the height of 3800m, One can see the valley and the surrounded mountains very clearly.
Overnight in a tent near Llamacorral.
Day 07: Llamaccorral (3760 m) – Base Camp Alpamayo (4300 m)
The panorama is fabulous. After having left the Hatuncocha laguna, You will hike to the Alpamayo Base Camp. We follow the Arhuaycocha valley. From this place you will have a fantastic view on the Quitaraju, the Alpamayo and the Pucajirca.You'll return to the main path and reach the main valley. Overnight stay in a tent in Taullipampa at the bottom of the imposing granite walls of the Taulliraju, where you will have an amazing view of the white pyramid of the Artesonraju.
Day 08: Taullipampa (4250 m) – Punta Union Pass (4750 m) – Cachinapampa (3700 m)
You'll hike on the Punta Union Pass with a view on the granite walls of the Taulliraju. Afterwards you'll go down the Huaripampa valley, just next to the Morococha laguna. From this place, you can see the east valley of the Chacraraju (6112 m), one of the mystic mountains of the Cordillera Blanca.
Overnight stay in a tent.
Day 09: Cachinapampa (3700 m) – Vaqueria (3800 m) - Macara
Slight decline to the small villages of Huaripampa, afterwards, you hike through the Damanda valley and cross Vaqueria. From here on you will have a nice view on the Yanapaccha (5400 m) and the Chopicalqui (6350 m). Transfer back to Macara. On the way, we will stop at the beautiful Llanganuco laguna.
Overnight in the Hotel Casarotto Don Bosco in Macará.
Day 10: Macará – Carhuaz – Lima
Journey from Macara back to Lima. Arrival in Lima and transfer to Hotel San Agustin Colonial or similar hotel. You'll have free time in the evening.
Day 11: Lima / Cusco: City Tour and visit of the surrounded ruins
In the Morning, Transfer to the airport. Flight to Cusco. Arrival and Transfer to the Hotel San Agustin International or similar hotel. In the afternoon, City tour through Cusco. Visit of the main square, the Cathedral and the Temple of the Sun, also known as Korikancha. The journey continues to the outskirts of the city to visit the Inca Ruins Kenko, Tambomachay, Puca Pucara and the impressive fortress of Sacsayhuaman, built strategically on a hill overseeing Cusco. The fort is famous because of its huge carved stones placed with the utmost precision. After this, you will return to your hotel.
Day 12: Cusco: Sacred valley of the Incas
We will visit the typical Indio market in Pisa. The market is open every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Indulge in the traditions of the locals on a typical market day. (Sunday Mass is held in Quechua, in the indigenous people's language). Afternoon drive through the Urubamba valley to Ollantaytambo. The fort of Ollantaytambo was built to guard the entrance to the valley and protect the city from invasion of the jungle dwellers. The site consists of numerous stacked terraces. We will also have the opportunity to walk around the village and get an impression of the military, religious and cultural centre of the Incas. Transfer to Urubamaba. Return to Cusco.
Day 13: Cusco / Chilca – Wayllabamba (Inka Trail)
Pick-up at the hotel very early in the morning. We drive to the small village of Chilca, situated 88 km from Cusco. We will meet our crew, porters, cooks, servants etc. who will be part of our group during the hike to Machu Picchu. After 3 hours we stop for our lunch break. After lunch we continue to Wayllabamba. in Wayllabamba we set up our first camp. En route we visit the archaeological site of Llactapata. Dinner at the camp.
Day 14: Wayllabamba - Warmiwañusca – Pacaymayo (Inka Trail)
After breakfast, You start your hike with the group for today. This is the most exhausting part of the trail. 3 hours steep uphill until we reach the first pass, Warmiwañusca also called "Dead Woman's Pass". This pass is at an altitude of 4200 m. Here you can enjoy the beautiful view over the valley. After a short break you continue down hill until you get to Pacaymayo. You'll set up camp for the night and have dinner.
Day 15: Pacaymayo - Phuyo Patamarka - Wiñay Huayna (Inka Trail)
After breakfast, you continue with our tour on the Inca trail. After 45 Minutes, you'll reach the second Pass at 3850 m. You will visit the archaeological sites of Runkurakay and the citadel of Sayamarca. You continue to Puyupatamarca (Place in the clouds). Here we have our lunch. In the afternoon, we go to Wiñay Huayna (Forever Young), a beautiful inca citadel. Dinner and overnight stay at the camp.
Day 16: Wiñay Huayna – Machu Picchu – Cusco (Inka Trail)
After breakfast,You continue with the last part of your hike towards Machu Picchu. After one hour through the forest, you'll arrive at the Sun Gate Inti Punko. Take a first glance at the archaeological site of Machu Picchu. After you have passed the checkpoint, you'll visit the citadel Machu Picchu with a guided tour (3 hours). During the tour, You will see the most important monuments such as the main place, the sun dial, the royal rooms, the temple of the three windows and the cemetery. You will also have the opportunity to visit the site on your own. Return to the Aguas Calientes. In the afternoon return to Cusco.
Transfer to a selected hotel.
Day 17: Cusco / Lima / ---
Transfer to Cusco airport. Flight to Lima. Arrival and transfer to Miraflores. Optional visit to the gold Museum. Transfer to the Airport in the afternoon.
