Peru - questions concerning health and safety
Are vaccinations required for Peru?
There are no legally required vaccinations for Peru. A prophylactic vaccine against malaria, hepatitis A and B is recommened. Your GP will advise you in detail and there is always information at the Foreign Office. Our recommendation is not to get a vaccine since you will arrive with a weakened immunological system to Peru which may make you prone to stomach infections. We suggest bringing Malaria tablets just in case.
Should I expect very noisy weekends?
Peruvians love celebrations. People with low income (around 60 out of 100 million) spend the majority of their income between Friday and Sunday attending "Fiestas". Loud music and dancing until sunrise is the rule and forms part of Peruvian culture.
You may want to join the party and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere!
